When I noticed that the Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge for this week was Texture, I was both pleased and a little overwhelmed. I’ve been eagerly awaiting a texture-based challenge because textures are one of my favorite things to photograph. However, when I thought about how many of my photos fit the theme, I realized I’d have a tough time choosing something to post. So, I sat down in front of my Lightroom catalog and started my search. After about an hour, I had barely scratched the surface of the 1000’s of photos suitable for the challenge. In fact, I was even a little discouraged and irritated by my own indecisiveness. So, I changed my approach and decided to worry a little less about picking just the right batch.
Instead, I’ll choose quickly and contribute four posts to the challenge. For the first one (this one), I’ll assemble a gallery of images I’ve already posted on puncta lucis that seem to fit the challenge. For the second post, I’ll just zoom through the catalog grabbing textured photos willy-nilly until I have a few dozen. For the 3rd and 4th posts, I’ll select two groups of photos taken during the same session. This approach saves me from having to pour over 1000’s of choices, while still giving me endless choices for future posts. If time allows, I may add a 5th post with a handful of photos I took last week.
I know that 4 or 5 galleries of images for a single challenge seems excessive, but I love the challenge so much that I’m going all-in. I hope you’re sitting in a comfy chair—I’ll be posting dozens of photos in the next hour. I hope you enjoy every single one of them.
